How To Organize: Pantry

Time Frame: 4 labor hrs

Most Common Assignment: 2 hrs with 2 organizers

Step 1

Time Frame: 30 minutes

  1. Take everything out of the pantry and put it on the kitchen island and kitchen tables
  2. Take a photo of the empty pantry / send photo to the office (see photo example)
  3. Take a photo of the kitchen island and kitchen tables where the food currently is / send photo to the office (see photo example)

Step 2

Time Frame: 30 minutes

  1. Plan the pantry in verticals and use markup on a photo to explain your gameplan / send photo to the office (see photo example)
  2. Place the bins and containers in the pantry in a visually appealing set up that makes the most sense at this time / send photo to the office (see photo example)
    1. This exact bin and container arrangement may change later as food goes back into the pantry
    2. Use a mix of containers – some wicker or woven baskets w/ bin clips + some plastic bins

Step 3

Time Frame: 15 minutes

  1. Sort the food further on the kitchen island and the dining room table by category. The categories are –
    1. Dinner
      1. Pasta
        1. Pasta/Spaghetti/Other Noodles
        2. Pasta Sauces
        3. Rice
        4. Dinner Packets – macaroni and cheese/rice-a-roni
      2. Canned Goods
        1. Soups
        2. Canned Fruit
        3. Canned Vegetables
    2. Snacks
      1. Chips
      2. Crackers
      3. Kids Snacks
      4. Other Snacks
  1. Baking
    1. Flours/sugars
    2. Baking soda/baking powder/cornstarch/vanilla/cocoa
    3. Chocolate Chips/Other baking chips
    4. Cake mixes/frostings/sprinkles
  2. Breakfast
    1. Cereal
    2. Oatmeal
    3. Pancake mixes/syrups
    4. Peanut butter/jelly
    5. Breads

Step 4

Time Frame: 30 minutes

  1. Return the food to the pantry
    1. Work in verticals
    2. Use the brackets (if any) of shelving to separate your verticals
    3. Each vertical can be either 1 category top to bottom or split into 2 smaller categories for the top shelves and the bottom shelves
    4. Make everything streamlined
    5. Leave space around containers 
    6. Add bin clips and labels
  2. Take photos 15 minutes into returning the food to the pantry to update the office / send photos to the office (see photo examples)
  3. Take after photo and video (see photo and video examples)

Step 5

Time Frame: 15 minutes

  1. Finish anything up that is needed
  2. Return the final items to the pantry once you’ve taken after photos
  3. Clean up the kitchen island and kitchen tables you used for sorting
  4. Take out the trash if food was disposed of and put a clean trash bag in their trash can
  5. Walk the client through their new pantry if they are home
  6. Lock up the home (if needed) and clock out
